I’m a language & localization strategist bridging the gap between the TV/Film industry and translators.

I help make sure that queer identities and bi/multilingual stories don’t get lost in translation.

What’s the issue?

TV/Film is full of more diversity than ever before. Writers and directors spend a lot of time and energy making their characters come alive on the screen through vibrant true-to-life dialogue.

However, some of this dialogue can be a challenge to translate. For example, Spanglish (Spanish-English mixing) and other types of multilingualism present a unique challenge for translators. Similarly, queer language use doesn’t always have transparent options available across languages. Even when it does, not all translators are aware of the nuances or how to render them into other languages. In the worst cases, we see misgendering or narrative re-writes that writers and directors didn’t intend.

I can help. I’ve been researching these specific challenges for a decade. Let me work with your team to develop a translation strategy that will take your artistic intentions to new markets.

FAQ

  • Primarily, I’m a consultant. I bring my translation experience along with years of research to the table to help ensure that your productions are as intentional in the dubbed/subtitled versions as they were when you crafted them.

Still, sometimes I do translate, and if you’ve got a project that that you think I’m a good fit for, hit me up.

  • Writers, producers, and translators have very different priorities. While writers and producers may be on the same page through production of the original language version, translation is often an afterthought. Given that audiences are increasingly viewing content with irrespective of the original language, true excellence on a global scale requires us to be intentional about who translates our ideas and how.

This is where I step in. I can help you develop translation strategies and briefs, interview translation firms, and foster relationships with translators who understand the stories you’re telling and who are as passionate about your message as you are.

  • Click yellow “Contact me” button and message me. Be sure to include some details about your needs and why you think I can help. I’ll follow up and we can set up a time for a quick conversation and see where it leads.
